Every main living space as well as hallway and landings, by law, will require an interlinked smoke detector. Heat alarms need to be installed in every kitchen, and a carbon monoxide detector in every room with a fuel burning appliance or flue.

The Scottish government sets the legislation to start on February 2022 onwards.
